Scream VI
Thoughts
I was never convinced that Scream could continue after Wes Craven died. I felt that it couldn't work without his touch - I'm not particularly a fan of auteur theory, but it just didn't feel like it could continue without him. Also, the Scream TV show is the only thing he didn't touch leading up to his death, and it was fucking trash, so I approached Scream V with trepidation.
Luckily it was really really damn good! I was actually shocked at how good it ended up being, and ended up watching it twice in the theater and another on streaming. I did my first rewatch of Scream VI for today and while it doesn't hit quite as hard as V did, it's also a very pleasant romp. Well, as pleasant as a slasher film can be lol. Melissa Barrera's acting feels vastly improved, and it was a delight to see Hayden "Kairi from Kingdom Hearts" Panettiere reprise her role as Kirby. One of like 4 white celebrities I've ever had a crush on (I'll let you get the rest).
Normally I'm of a mind that you should let things end eventually, but the meta-narrative aspects of Scream make it so that at least for me, as long as they're good, I'll keep on watching.
