Entry 1 - Starting, Starting Over, then Starting Again

Weird how that works.

Today I started with RPG Maker MV as planned, and successfully implemented a bunch of battle mini-games using SMD's various timing-based combat plugins. The only one I couldn't figure out after hours of work was the "Arrows" one, which sucks but maybe I can swing back around and try again. I didn't want to get hung up on it.

The rest of the day was kiiind of a bust? But I learned a lot. I tried the MV3D plugin, but it felt like way too much effort for a smallish project and the documentation is really not great. So then I tried out RPG Architect, which seems cool but requires too much manual input atm, which I'm not in the mood for as I simply want to finish this project. But I'll save it for the future.

In the end I grabbed the Time Fantasy asset pack. I did not realize this was a sprite pack, and is apparently quite popular? So I've been warned that my project won't "stand out" as a result. But imagine if I gave a fuck about that, lol. Also, apparently Time Fantasy is the sprite pack that was used to create one of my favorite games of 2022, Crystal Project. So it feels good to use the same set. Plus it has some good sprites for Black characters that I can use.

As a result this won't be a game about any of my existing characters, but I have some interesting alternatives for a story I think is worth telling.

Not a bad start for day one.
