The Return from Hibernation Post
The Velvet Newsletter
Hello hello.
I have been away from the internet for a while. In that time I've done a lot, including establishing this (new)sletter. Welcome! I dunno if this'll be weekly or monthly yet, we'll see.
That said, here's the big stuff, and some stuff that hasn't fully formed in my brain yet but that is percolating in one way or another.
The Big Stuff
28 Days of Horror Movies
I've written at least a couple of words for every spook movie I've watched on this holiest of months. This is despite the fact that it doesn't feel like October given that the planet is slowly cooking us.
Regardless, there are some new movies, some old movies, and my thoughts about them. I don't write about movies very often, so this has been a good exercise. That said, there are some days I want to write and some days I, uh, don't. So keep that in mind as you peruse.
Poena Mortis
I've been working on an RPG Maker MV game and it's going pretty well, I think. I'd say I'm about 65% of the way there. You can peep the details and Dev Log, where I've written an entry for every time I've done work on it. Here are the stats on that so far, according to Focus To-Do:
Side-note: I have a lot to say about Focus To-Do. Expect a post on that soon.
Thoughts on Building a Second Brain
I read this book. I do not know why I read this book. It was okay. This is a rather short review because I don't have much experience reviewing books, but it does give a pretty good explainer on my interest in Obsidian, the idea of a "Second Brain," and my own ADHD struggles, if you're interested in that.
Quick Thoughts - Riverdale
A silly post about the greatest show of all time.
The Percolating Stuff
I'm currently obsessed with Gundam Breaker 3, and have scribbled many copious notes on it. I've also been play Pokemon Violet, and have opinions I'll probably be giving on that. I have a fun idea for a post related to the seasons, which you'll see by the next newsletter, I'm sure. The stuff I mentioned about Focus To-Do, and some thoughts about Physical Media. Much to ponder.
Status Update
If you know me I've been through a rough patch (if you don't: hi! Sorry to get so personal on a first meet like this. I will not stop.). I'm getting better - crawling out of the hole, as it were. Transitioning from the Cafe has been a weird period for me, which is funny because most people probably don't care, lmao. I am the only one taking it so seriously.
I am constantly preoccupied with my ability to deliver interesting and creative things to people, and I've come to grips with the fact that this part of me will never change. So rather than change it, I am trying to go easier on myself. Balance the insatiable need to give an opinion on media - a hunger so deep within me that I got a minor in Media Studies, mind you - with other stuff that I want to write about, and other creative endeavors as well. Poena Mortis is the start of that, but I'm even making a video at the moment (if you know good software for editing on Windows, hmu).
The layout of this newsletter, my work, and my life will constantly be changing, I'd guess - but the soul still burns.
